Au large des côtes du Sénégal, en face de Dakar, Gorée a été du XVe au XIXe siècle le plus grand centre de commerce d'esclaves de la côte africaine. Tour à tour sous domination portugaise, néerlandaise, anglaise et française, son architecture est caractérisée par le contraste entre les sombres quartiers des esclaves et les élégantes maisons des marchands d'esclaves. L'île de Gorée reste encore aujourd'hui un symbole de l'exploitation humaine et un sanctuaire pour la réconciliation.

Cette petite ballade vous fera découvrir l’île jusqu’à son point culminant sur lequel a été tourné une scène du célèbre film Les Canons de Navarone.

Beyond Sénégal coasts, just in front of Dakar town, Gorée Island was the most important slave-trading pole of African coast from the XVth to the XIXth century. Respectively dominated by the Portugal, the Netherlands, the England, and by the France, you will feel a strange contrast walking on Gorée streets: The darkness of any slave houses and the great and comfortable slave sellers’ houses. Gorée Island is still now a human exploitation symbol and a place of reconciliation.

This walk will lead you from the harbour to the top of islands hill, on which you will find the famous “Guns of Navarone”.
