Annetut koordinaatit ovat keskellä Haapajärveä olevan kiven
koordinaatit. Jääkausi muotoili näitäkin maisemia voimakkaasti..
Jää ja vesi kuljetti suuria määriä kallioperästä hioutunutta
materiaalia mukanaan, pienempiä tai suurempia kappaleita. Suomen
maaperässä näkyy runsaasti tällaisia Jääkauden jälkeensä jättäneitä
merkkejä, siirtolohkareita, sora- ja moreeniharjuja, hiidenkirnuja,
pirunpeltoja yms.
Salpausselät ovat syntyneet jääkaudella jäätikön pysähdyttyä
ilmaston viilennyttyä äkkiä rajusti nuoremmalla eli kolmannella
dryaskaudella (Lapinvuokko, Dryas octopetala, on antanut nimensä
nuoremmalle dryaskaudelle). Noin 12 250–12 050 vuotta sitten syntyi
Ensimmäinen Salpausselkä.
Kylmän vaiheen lopussa syntyi 11 790–11 590 Toinen Salpausselkä
noin 200:ssa vuodessa 15–25 km Ensimmäisestä Salpausselästä
luoteeseen.
Likimain tämän toisen selän alueella, tai vähän sen
pohjoispuolella, olemme tällä seudulla, eikä kolmaskaan,
edeltäjiään huomattavasti lyhempi harjumuodostelma ole kovin
kaukana. Tosin harjumuodostelmat ovat hieman rikkonaisia ja
paljaita kalliotakin esiintyy runsaasti. Eli todennäköisesti näillä
seutuvilla on virtauksia ollut ristiin rastiin.
Lieneekö tämäkin kivi noina jäätävinä aikoina siirtynyt
myllertävien maa- ja vesimassojen mukana kätköpaikalta järveen,
lähes kolmen kilometrin matkan - jään ja vesivirtojen liikkeistä
kun ei ole jälkiä tallennettuna gepsin muistissa.
Mitenkään muuten tämä kivi – tai kari – ei liity mysteeriin.

piilopaikasta, joka on 67 dm suuntaan SSE tuosta pisteestä.

A rock in the middle of a lake… no boat is required though.
The coordinates given above are the coordinates for a rock in the
middle of Lake Haapajärvi. The latest ice age played a significant
role in shaping this landscape to what it is today… Water and
melting ice carried along with them large amounts of material
eroded from the bedrock as small and large items alike. Evidence of
this phenomena taking place during the Ice Age are still visible in
the Finnish landscape as erratic blocks, gravel and moraine ridges,
giant kettles, etc. Hill formations known as Salpausselät are such
gravel ridges, which were formed during the Ice Age as the
retreating glacier suddenly/abruptly stopped retreating due to
rapid shift to cooler climate during the third Dryas age (named
after Lapinvuokko, or Lapland’s anemone, dryas octopetala). The
first Salpausselkä was formed 12 250 – 12 050 years ago, and
towards the end of this cooler period 11 790 – 11 590 years ago the
second Salpausselkä was formed in 200 years approximately 15 – 25
km northwest from the first Salpausselkä.
This region lies around, or perhaps slightly on the northern side,
the area of the second Salpausselkä and the third Salpausselkä
ridge formation, which is much shorter than its predecessors, is
not that far off from here either. However, these long esker lines
are disconnected in places, and bare cliffs can also be found quite
frequently along these gravel ridges. This indicates that there
must have been ice and water flowing in every direction around this
area and leaving its marks on the ground. Perhaps this particular
rock also has been shifted along the retreating glacier and the
churning waters from the cache location to where it presently lies
- in the middle of the lake nearly 3 km away from the cache.
Unfortunately, the movements of the glacier and water currents
weren’t recorded on GPS, so who could tell…
Other than that this particular rock has nothing whatsoever to
do with this mystery.
