Stackey Gully - Last Resort Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

AussiePuschaks: After several years, it's time to retire this one, as it keeps going missing. Suspect a nearby muggle has found out about it and keeps removing, despite the nearest neighbour (our parents) keeping a close eye.

Geocache Description:

Relatively simple drive by cache (good for walk or bike too)

Stackey Gully Creek was one of the sources of alluvial gold in the Bright district during the late 1800's, and in essence, forms the boundary of the Bright township now.

As late as 10 years ago, this creek flowed throughout the year, and was significant enough to cause the typical burbling and bubbling noises of a creek that would keep me awake lying nearby at night.

Now unfortunately, due to the drought, drying aquifers and an increase in residential pumping, it is hard to get a trickle out of the creek even in Spring. It more often flows when the storm water drain, added for Walnut Court, flows due to rain.

This cache is located a few steps from the road, and as you'll have your back to it, please be careful. Also be careful if you have any geokids or geohounds with you. You may also notice that your GPS maps have a different name for the nearby intersection. This road was renamed during 2008.

Launched just before Christmas, this cache was originally supplied with celebratory items for the kids during the holidays.

If challenged by a nearby local muggle whilst retrieving this cache, say gidday and ask him about the creek and his alpaca herd. He is well aware of this cache, agreeing to take responsibility for it between our visits to this lovely town.
