Geocache Description:

Near the village of Zalavar, behind the ruins, a small (8x8x12cm) container.

The christian Pribina, vassal of king Louis the German, built his royal castle, Mosaburg, in the middle of the 800's. The castle also served as a religious center.

On the road from Zalavar to Zalaszabar, before reaching the bank of the widening Kis-Zala river, a hard-to-spot little sign points to monument on the Receskut island. It is a ten minutes walk on a path between reed and willows to a sunny clearing. From there, in the bright green grass you can already spot the one and a half meters tall stone walls of a roman basilica. The width of the building is 12m, the length is 20m. The main nave is twice as wide as the side naves. The three half-arc shrine is bordered by straight wall from the outside. In the southern corner of the western hall you can see the base of a tower, the christening fountain used to be here, too.

You can reach the parking at N46 39.791 E17 8.563 from the Village of Zalavar. The well kept path leads from here to the ruins.
