We originally named this cache after a boulder that we found on the slope of a hill in the woods behind Concord Hospital. We discovered that if you look at this boulder while facing the East-Southeast, and use your imagination, it has the profile of a hound's head. Something worth looking for on your own! Unfortunately, the site is too close to other established caches, so we found this new location.
The cache is located in a section of wooded trails that we like to hike and snowshoe called Winant Park. There are many access points and crisscrossing trails in these woods, so you’ll want to start on the trail that begins at the suggested parking coordinates, which is the trailhead for Winant Park. If you do, you can take the trail that goes to the left at the first trail junction. Stay on this trail and it will lead you close by to the cache - but you’ll need to bushwhack the final 100 yards to find Howard’s “home”. We created a special trackable item for this cache and named it "Howard the Hound". Our hope is for Howard to travel the world and eventually come back home. We also initially placed several other trackable Geocoins and items in this cache. Please only take a trackable coin/item when you can replace it with another one, or when you know that you will be able to move it to another cache in the very near future.
