Po tom, co vzniklo v 10. storocí Uhorské královstvo, územie na ktorom sa dnes nachádza Bratislava, sa stalo jeho súcastou. Pre svoju vhodnú polohu sa Bratislava postupom casu stala jedným z dolezitých uhorských miest. Tým najdolezitejsím sa vsak nestala len pre svoju polohu, ale najma preto, ze 29. augusta 1526 armáda tureckého sultána Süleymana I. v bitke pri Moháci na hlavu porazila uhorskú krestanskú armádu pod vedením ceského a uhorského krála Ludovíta II., ktorý pri úteku vo vseobecnom chaose spadol z kona a utopil sa. Coskoro na to Turci obsadili znacnú cast vtedajsieho Uhorska. A tak sa hlavným mestom Uhorska, sídlom krála a korunovacným mestom uhorských králov od roku 1536 na takmer 300 rokov stal vtedajsí Presporok. A práve po korunovacnej ceste, ktorou museli dakedy prejst panovníci spolu so svojim sprievodom v rámci slávnostného korunovacného ceremoniálu, sa teraz spolu vydáme. Cast z povodnej korunovacnej cesty dnes pripomína celkom 178 platní z lestenej mosadze v tvare stylizovanej královskej koruny vyznacených priamo v dlazbe. My ju vsak prejdeme celú. Zacíname na hore uvedených súradniciach a pokracovat budeme podla trasy uvedenej v mapke, na ktorej sú orientacne vyznacené aj jednotlivé zastávky.

In the 10th century, after Kingdom of Hungary formation, the area of today´s Bratislava became its part. For its location soon became one of the most important cities. However, the most significant became after the Battle of Mohacs on August 29, 1526, when the Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent Turkish Army beats the pants off Hungarian Christian army under the command of Bohemian and Hungarian King Louis II, who died after falling from his horse and later on drowning at the bolt. Soon the Turkish get control of the then Hungary. The catastrophe that struck the Kingdom of Hungary after the Battle of Mohacs paradoxically worked in favour of Bratislava. Bratislava became the parliament city of the kingdom and the coronation city of Hungarian kings for almost 300 years. In the period 1536-1830 some 11 kings and queen were crowned in St. Martin’s Cathedral in Bratislava. Let´s follow the coronation route the monarchs and their suite had to attend. The entire route for the ceremonial crowd today signposted by 178 brass plates with crowns imprinted as tiles into the footpath. We are going to start on coordinates listed above and than follow the map with marked stages.
Vydrická Brána / Vydricka Gate
Na slávnostný akt korunovania prichádzal král od Vydrickej brány, ktorá sa nachádzala pri Dóme sv. Martina a ktorou sa do mesta vchádzalo z Podunajskej cesty. Dnes túto bránu pripomína iba pár kvádrov v múre vedlajsieho domu a mosadzná tabula umiestnená na chodníku na hore uvedených súradniciach. Tu si vsimneme text na mosadznej tabuli.

The coronation route begins at Vydricka Gate near the St. Martin's Cathedral. Nowadays reminds the gate only few blocks on the neighbouring house and a brass plate on the footpath on coordinates above. Pay attention to the text on the plate.

Dóm sv. Martina / St. Martin´s Cathedral
Samotný akt korunovácie sa odohrával v Dóme sv. Martina pocas slávnostnej omse. Krála korunoval spravidla najvyssí cirkevný hodnostár krajiny – ostrihomský arcibiskup, ktorému asistovali dalsí cirkevní a svetskí hodnostári. Panovník sa králom stával az prijatím koruny, hoci bol volený za vladára este predtým uhorskými stavmi. V Dóme bolo celkom korunovaných 10 králov, jedna panujúca královná Mária Terézia a osem královských manzeliek. Prvá korunovácia sa uskutocnila 8. septembra 1563, ked bol na uhorského krála korunovaný Maximilián II. a v poradí posledná sa uskutocnila dna 28. septembra 1830, ked bol na uhorského krála korunovaný Ferdinand V. Habsburský. Dnes korunováciu uhorských králov pripomína nielen pozlátená replika svatostefanskej koruny váziaca 300 kg umiestnená na pozlátenom vankúsi na vrchole veze korunovacného chrámu, ale aj neúplný zoznam korunovaných hláv nachádzajúci sa v chráme na lavej strane presbytéria. Tu si vsimneme vstup do krypty rodiny Palffyovcov, ktorý sa nachádza na vonkajsej strane severnej casti Dómu pod sochou rytiera v zbroji.

The coronation took place here, during a mass. The kings and queens were crowned by Ostrihom Archbishop. However, the monarch was elected, he/she became the king/queen not until coronation. 10 kings, 1 queen /Maria Theresa/ and 8 consort were crowned in St. Martin´s Cathedral. First coronation took place on September 8, 1563 /Maximilian II/ and the last one on September 28, 1830 /Ferdinand V./. The famous history is reminded to us by replica of St Stephan’s crown placed on top of the tower, weighing 300 kg and incomplete list of crowned heads on the left side of the cathedrals Presbytery. Pay attention to the Palffys crypt entrance outside the cathedral /northern part/ under the statue of the knight.

Sprievod mestom / Suite through the town
Z Dómu po korunovácii presiel král peso uz so vsetkými insígniami svojej královskej moci – svatostefanskou korunou, mecom, královským zezlom a jablkom, v brokátovom bohato vysívanom korunovacnom plásti spolu so svojim sprievodom najstarsou castou mesta cez Kapitulskú, Prepostskú, Ventúrsku a Sedlársku ulicu na Hlavné námestie. Cesta bola prikrytá cerveným plátnom, ktoré po prechode sprievodu obyvatelstvo roztrhalo. Tu si vsimneme zrekonstruovaný dom na rohu Kapitulskej a Prepostskej ulice (smerom od Dómu sv. Martina), na ktorého drevenej bráne je mosadzné dvojciferné císlo „1?“.

After coronation in St. Martin´s Cathedral walked the king/queen with his/hers insignias /St Stephan’s crown, sword, sceptre and orb/ in brocade coat through Kapitulska, Prepostska, Venturska and Sedlarska Streets to The Main Square. The footpath was covered by red cloth which the people rip after the suite. Pay attention to reconstructed house on the corner of Kapitulska and Prepostska Street /going from the St. Martin´s Cathedral /, on the gate /wooden door/ there is a brass double-digit number „1?“

Hlavné námestie / The Main Square
Po príchode krála s druzinou na Hlavné námestie novozvoleného krála pozdravili pred mestskou radnicou predstavitelia mesta, odkial sa odobral na Frantiskánske námestie. S korunováciami súvisí aj Maximiliánova fontána, ktorá je uprostred Hlavného námestia, ktorú dal postavit prvý v Bratislave korunovaný král Maximilián II. po tom, co mesto po skoncení jeho korunovácie zachvátil poziar. Tu si vsimneme, ktorým smerom má otocenú hlavu rytier Roland na vrchole fontány.

After arrival on The Main Square the representatives of the city greet the new-elected king in front of the Town Hall. From the town hall the tour continues to the Franciscan Square. Coronation is related to Maximilian´s Fountain in the middle of the square. This fountain was erected by Maximilian II. After his coronation fire swept the town. Pay attention to the statue of knight Roland on the top of the fountain.

Frantiskánsky kostol zvestovania Pána / Franciscan Church
Po tom, co král pozdravil zástupcov mesta sa pesi presiel ku Františkánskemu kostolu. Tu v starobylom obrade pasoval vybraných slachticov za rytierov Zlatej ostrohy. Tu si vsimneme erb umiestnený na lavo od vchodu do kostola. V jeho strede sa nachádza písmeno. Toto prevedieme na císlo (klasicky A=1, B= 2 ... Z= 26) a dostaneme dvojciferné císlo UT.

After greeting with representatives of the city the tour continues to the Franciscan Square into the Franciscan Church. Here were the knighthood on patrician took place. Pay attention to the impresa on the left side from the church entrance. There is a letter in the middle of the impresa. Sprievod za mesto / Suite behind the town
Potom sa král na koni vybral Bielou a Michalskou ulicou cez Michalskú bránu za brány mesta. Pri Michalskej bráne dnes koncí pripomenutie korunovacnej cesty mosadznými platnami v chodníku. Okrem toho je pod nou umiestnený nultý kilometer, od ktorého sa odpocítava vzdialenost vybraných svetových miest od Bratislavy.

Than the king riding a horse went through to Biela and Michalska Street towards Michal’s Gate behind the town gate. Behind Michal’s gate the marking with the printed crown on a tile ends. Under Michal’s Gate there is a zero point showing the direction and distance from Bratislava to other metropolitans in the world. Pay attention to the distance to The North Pole

Za mestom panovník pod holým nebom skladal prísahu, v ktorej sa zaviazal dodrziavat slobody a práva, ochranovat dobré a osvedcené zvyklosti, nekrivdit poddaným. Povodne sa podium na panovníkovu prísahu nachádzalo za Michalskou bránou, pri neskorsích korunováciách bolo umiestnené pred kostolom a klástorom Milosrdných bratov na dnesnom námestí SNP (jedným z povodných názvov tohto námestia bol aj „Schwurplatz“, Námestie prísahy).

Do mesta a zasa von, korunovacný kopcek /Back into the town and out again, coronation hill
Do mesta sa panovník vrátil Laurinskou bránou a zasa z neho vyšiel Rybárskou bránou, za ktorou sa konala posledná cast korunovácie, panovník vysiel na korunovacný kopcek z hliny privezenej zo vsetkých zúp Uhorska a mecom zamával na vsetky svetové strany, cím dal nepriatelom na vedomie, ze je pripravený bránit královstvo zo vsetkých strán. Povodný kopcek sa nachádzal za vtedajsou Rybárskou bránou v priestoroch, kde je v súcasnosti postavená Opera SND, neskor bol presunutý smerom k Dunaju. Rybárska brána sa nezachovala, pripomína ju mosadzná tabulka osadená v chodníku a nález zvyskov jej predbránia, ktorý mozno pozriet okrúhlym zaskleným priezorom.

The monarch entered the town by Lawrence´s gate and left by Fisherman´s Gate. Here was the last part of coronation. The monarch went up on the coronation hill /made up of soil of all Hungarian district/ and waves his sword in all four directions, so that the enemy can feel that he´s ready to protect the kingdom from all cardinal points. Originally was the coronation hill behind the Fisherman´s Gate /on the place were historical building of Slovak National Theatre is/ later was removed to the river Danube. Fisherman´s Gate is not preserve, however is reminding by a brass plate on the footpath, ruins of the gate are under glass vistaed /it looks like a glass well/. Pay attention to the circle board under glass vistaed.
