A hike up the Brookbank Trail in the Flagstaff area with view of
NAU and the Peaks. One of the lesser used trails in the area of Mt.
Elden.
Last week I came down this trail on a group hike over Mt. Elden. I
was impressed with the views and the feeling of remoteness and
wilderness on the trail. Today I hiked up the trail to place this
cache.
On the way up there are views of NAU, and once on the back side
of the hill there are great views of the Peaks. Before and after
the cache there are quiet meadows.
I accessed the Brookbank Trail from the posted trailhead off Mt
Elden Lookout Road (coordinates listed). The trail is also
accessible from the Sunset Trail higher on Mt. Elden. From the
trailhead it is about a mile to the clearly posted turn to the
trail leading to the cache. The cache is about 20 meters off this
trail in an area that should cause minimal impact. There is also a
smooth rock to sit on while writing your logs.
I showed the cache at about 8386 ft. in elevation. From the
trailhead with some side trips it was about 2.55 miles and 733 ft.
in elevation gain. I would recommend light hiking boots. I wore
cross-trainers and slid a bit coming down.
Difficulty a bit more due to poor GPS signal.

October 4, 2009 by mitmatr (340 found) Ah this one was great, I wasn't sure I had enough daylight, but I made it. I definitely had the wrong shoes. My feet were very sore from a run I did yesterday. Thanks for this cache and its great location. Its dense and the GPS signal is not the best, just have to make sure you take your GEO sense.

AJ_Hkr and I were able to get out last weekend and we enjoyed ourselves. This weekend we thought we would grab the Dry Lake Hills caches. We headed up Sunset and then swung around the ridge and hit this cache. It was our first of a very long day with a long walk. We had a blast and we thank the AZCelts for putting out such nice caches for us to find today. T Croc L Flag_Mtn_Hkrs Wooden Nickel, P38, Green & Blue Marble SL @ 1139 TFTC Just Cache It ! !

August 8, 2009 by pair o' dachs (2423 found) What a great trail, cut into the side of this wooded slope. After finding this one, we stopped for a snack to recharge our batteries and then headed off to get the other three up on this mesa. Thanks for the hunt!

August 4, 2009 by scubadog (3791 found) The dog and I wandered over from the Peak View cache, sometimes on trail, sometimes not. Easy find once we were there. Signed log. Thanks.

June 6, 2009 by wanderwillow (38 found) Didn't bring anything to leave but had a lovely hike straight over from Sunset Trail campground after a full day of hard-core biking all over Elden. What a great mountain! Thanks for the cache and the reason to go back to Brookbank. That section of the trail is absolutely beautiful.
