Geocache Description:

Explore Vermont!

This is the first in a series that we hope will catch on.
It is part of the the Vermont 251 Plus 4 Geocaching Club bringing caches to each and every town, city and gore in the state of Vermont!

When we came up with the Vermont 251 plus 4 adventure, this is the first location that I wanted to visit. You see even today there are no roads (OK, there are logging roads), no buildings and no residents in Warners Grant.

The history of this grant is even more interesting. Back in 1787 the widow of Colonel Seth Warner petitioned the state of Vermont for a tract of land. Stating that he was a great Patriot and spent most of his life fighting in the Revolutionary War. Because of this he was not able to spend the needed time in agriculture to take care of his wife and children and was unable to leave behind adequate farm land and provisions for them to support themselves.

The legislature took just three days to find the petition 'True' and recommended that 2,000 acres of land be granted to Seth's widow.
Unfortunately, it took a year for the state to find the 2,000 acres and another 3 years for the charter to be finalized.

Getting to Warners Grant and this cache is somewhat easy, but don't expect a park and grab. If you look at your Vermont DeLorme you will see a road starting in Morgan from the west. It makes a hairpin turn, which just so happens to cross into Warners Grant! Unless you are the owner of this road, DON'T go this way! That was our idea, but there is a cable across the road and a Private Property sign.
We came in from the east, via a logging road in Warren Gore. I forgot to waypoint the parking spot (sorry - but exploring is half the fun!) but I do have a junction waypoint that you will walk to. This will give you an idea of your starting point. Once you are on the correct road, you will come to an "Awesome" gate (you'll know what I mean when you get there) at which point you will park your vehicle and start hoofing it.
It is a gradual walk along some very good logging roads. At the junction N: 44deg 54.451 W: 71deg 53.415, go to the right and keep on walking.

And when you get there, let us be the first to welcome you to Warners Grant!
