Geocache Description:

This Flash Mob gathering of geocachers will be only 15 minutes long. You MUST be present and sign the log sheet DURING this time to claim this event. After 15 minutes … we're gone!

This event is be one small part of the WWFM IV (World Wide Flash Mob event) coordinated and in conjunction with the San Diego WWFM IV hosted by iTrax and FoxTail but since Australia is some 17 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time rather than holding our event simultaneously with the US event at 0500 on Sunday morning this event is at a much more user friendly time

AGENDA

Participants casually position themselves at various locations around the State Library / Melbourne Central precinct within sight of but not at GZ

0959 - 1000

Casually make your way towards GZ but as much as you can, act like a muggle, pretend not to know each other or give any indication that something is about to happen but STAY AWAY from ground zero until your GPSr clock tells you it's 1000 EXACTLY

1000

Everyone arrives at GZ. Facitman & Rhinogeo will be there with an Ammo Box. As you arrive, you will be handed a log sheet. Participants will sign the log sheets (which will later become the log book). To qualify for attendance, drop the completed logsheet back in the Ammo Box

1000 - 1005

Mingle. Meet old friends and make new ones. Share stories. Compare this event to WWFM II held at 4:00 am on Remembrance Day and WWFM III at Federation Square. But be quick - there is not much time!

1005 - 1010

25 volunteers are needed for the special WWFM IV attention seeking activity. Step up and be part of it !!! When are you going to get the chance to do this again?

1010 - 1013

Participants assemble for the traditional WWFM group photos and to record the group cheerios for Sonny, Sandy and Spindoc Bob

1013 - 1014

A logsheet will be drawn from the Ammo Box to award FTF honours to one of the participants

1014

One minute warning announced - Prepare to leave

1015 EXACTLY

IMMEDIATELY LEAVE the area. The event area will be evacuated without a trace. The log ammo box will be packed up. If you didn't get to it in time you can't log the event. Only those participants whose names appear on the log sheets may log this event

If everything goes right we will have had people coming out of nowhere and gathering for 15 minutes, holding a geocaching event and then disappearing

For the Flash Mob to have its full effect, it must appear to come from nowhere and disappear just as quickly

Post-event summary

WWFM IV was a great success with 49 teams (about 70 people) attending the steps of the State Library for another brief but eminently cacheworthy Flash Mob event

I reckon it's part of the extemporaneous nature of WWFMs that again we had about three times as many teams attend than had posted Will Attend notes

Arriving at the venue 20 minutes early I noticed a few of the usual suspects before I retreated around the corner to grab a coffee with a few other familiar looking people that had the same idea

With a couple of minutes to go Facitman and I moved towards GZ, positioning ourselves at the top of the steps right on the dot of 10:00

The ammo box was opened and geocachers converged from all directions to grab their logsheets and log their attendance much to the bemusement of the muggles that had also been in the area waiting for the opening of the library (coincidentally also at 10:00)

24 volunteers were then handed printed sheets of A3 paper to hold and make mosaics of the Podcacher and GCA logos :). It was an interesting exercise with the participants complying with all instructions despite not really getting the gist of the big picture

The GCA mosaic sort of worked

The Podcacher mosaic came out a bit better

We then took the group photos, drew the raffle and all too quickly it was over ... until WWFM V in April or May 2009
