A ROCHA DELICADA
A área chamada Quinta da Rocha é na realidade uma Península delineada pela ribeira de Odiáxere e pelo rio Alvor, que se juntam e dão origem à Ria de Alvor. Neste percurso poderá encontrar vários cenários bem distintos: campos agrícolas, matas mediterrânicas, sapais, salinas, pisciculturas e o ecossistema aquático dos rios e da laguna de Alvor.
Em cada um destes locais são observáveis fauna e flora caracteristicas.
Contudo é o mosaico formado por todas estas facetas em equilibrio dinâmico que confere à Ria de Alvor a sua beleza e importância.
Esta zona húmida é um ponto de alimentação e de descanso estratégico para dezenas de espécies de aves que fazem o trajecto de migração entre os Continentes Africano e Europeu.
Enquanto que na Primavera e Verão poderá encontrar Chilretas e Pernilongas a nidificar, no Inverno o sapal é utilizado por aves que fugiram ao frio das latitudes mais elevadas como os Colhereiros, Alcarvões, Alfaiates e Flamingos.

Elegant Rock
The area knowm as Quinta da rocha is actually a peninsula delineated by the Odiáxere Brook on one side and on the other the Alvor River, which join together to form the Alvor Estuary.
On this route various traditional habitats can be seen; agricultural land, Mediterranean scrub, sait marshes, salt pans,fish farms and all the aquatic ecosystems of the Alvor estuary.
In each of these habitats characteristic local fauna and flora can be observed. however, it is the sum total of this stunnig mosaic, the balance between the important and diverse habitats which give it such special beauty.
This strategic wetland is a feeding/rest point for dozens of species of brids which migrate between Europe and Africa.While in the spring and summer you can find Little Terns and Black-Winged Stilts nesting here, in the winter months the marsh is used by birds such as Spoonbill, Stone-curlew, Avocet and Flamingo escaping more chilly,Northern latitudes. |
