The Gold Rush

How Geocaching Works
This cache is an underwater course that can be done as a race! A boat sure would come in handy as would snorkel equipment. ***Good to go for 2012***
Race your geocache friends and find the gold first! This cache is set-up as a race, but can be found with one team as well. If you are up for a race, a second boat will be needed! There are golden nuggets scattered through the Whitefish Chain of lakes. The first golden nugget is submerged in nearly six feet of water. On it is listed two seperate coordinates. At this point, the two teams split and head for their seperate targets! These two targets each contain the same coordinates to find the third and final cache, so if you are playing as a team of one, there is no need to find the alternate race coordinate unless you wish to be thorough. All the caches are hidden in approximately six feet of water so a nearby boat and snorkel equipment would greatly bennefit your search. The conditions underwater will vary depending on the weather. Windy days make for waves that will stir-up the bottom making a successful find quite challenging. Sunny days work good to light your way. Each "golden nugget" is a large, golden spray painted rock roughly the size of a football. Since the cache is underwater there is no logbook or trinkets to win, just gold nuggets to find and brag about! * Note to kayakers and canoers- This hunt will cover multiple lakes requiring a substantial distance to row and paddle. Pick your days well and may I suggest using your car to get you closer to the next coordinate in order to save time and effort. Most of the DNFs are fighting the wind and waves and are too tuckered-out to make a good attempt, so keep the weather conditions in mind when attempting to find it. Another good help is to use a buoy as a fixed landmark, or anchor your boat near the co-ordinates. This way if you start snorkeling or searching around, you can use your stationary boat or buoy as a reference. It works for me quite well. Good luck!
[This hunt will lake you across 4 different lakes so human-powered boats be aware!]
