Deep Lake Drive By
This is one of what will ultimately be 20
caches that will take you on a loop from Colville, north on Aladdin
Road, up near the Canadian border on Deep Lake Boundary road, then
around through Northport and Kettle Falls, eventually ending back
up in Colville. There may be a few side trips along the way but you
should be able to complete the entire loop in a day with no
problem. Not all of caches will be placed and active at the same
time. We will get them done as quickly as we can.
Deep Lake is an absolutely beautiful mountain
lake in northern Stevens County. Not really that deep in comparison
to others, the lake is predominately in the 45-50 foot deep range.
From this cache you will notice a large dead standing tree. I
affectionately call this the Osprey Perch because on any given day
you will find any number of osprey (fish hawks) sitting on the
upper branches eating their recent catch of fish from the lake. You
may also see bald eagles, deer, beavers, otters, various other
waterfowl, coyotes, moose, etc. in this area.
Deep Lake is a recreational lake and in
addition to fishing you will possibly see people kayaking,
waterskiing or wakeboarding. From this point you have a nice scenic
view of the lake without trespassing on private property. There is
a public boat launch just up the road a short way on your left.
(They do have pit toilets there. No running water.)
