Terry Fox Travel Bug Hotel
This cache is set up for those travel bugs and geocoins that need a
safe place to relax and wait for the next traveler to come by and
help them along. This cache is a USA Military Ammo Can started off
with a bunch of bugs and geocoins and some local Thunder Bay swag.
NOTE: This cache is not always available during winter months
depending on the amount of snow in the area. This location is one
of my annual favorite stops for lunch and pictures. There are
picnic tables and an excellent visitor's center nearby so cachers
have a spot to learn a little about the area and enjoy some scenic
views of Thunder Bay's Sleeping Giant and see the cache namesake
Terry Fox Monument.
Here's a little more detail on this site: The eastern edge of
Thunder Bay is the site for one of the most poignant monuments in
Canada, the Terry Fox Memorial. This memorial offers a breathtaking
view overlooking the Sleeping Giant. A 9-foot high bronze rendering
of Terry Fox stands on a 45-ton granite base laid on a foundation
of local amethyst.
The cross-Canada Marathon of Hope undertaken by this courageous
young man ended near Thunder Bay when his cancer flared again.
Terry Fox continues to be an inspiration for people, young and old
as a Terry Fox Run is held in communities across Canada each year
in September to raise funds for cancer.
The Visitor Center is located beside the Memorial. Follow Hwy 11/17
(Thunder Bay Expressway) 1 km east of Hodder Ave.

January 16 by Hunters-5 (10 found) Still accessible through the snow, not completely covered yet. Dropped off Pi-Day TB. Took some golden beads for Hunter-girl. Lots of items in the TB hotel. Beautiful day, chanced upon an Olympic torch relay member taking some pictures at the monument in full gear. His leg of the relay took place in Schreiber. We got to hold an official Olympic Torch and had our pictures taken with it! Good day geocaching!
