Why do so many geocache players refuse
to post a
DNF log? For some reason, many
goecacher’s (myself included) will not post a
DNF log after they were unable to
locate a cache. How many times have you read
a smiley log indicating that the
finder attempted to locate the cache numerous times before
finally logging a find? If you were to check the previous
logs, more often than not you will see that the geocacher
posting the find never posted a
DNF log even though he/she
reported not finding it on prior attempts? Why is
this?
DNF logs should be utilized as an
important tool to make the geocaching experience more interesting
to all who play the game. By posting that sad blue face
you are providing a GR8 service,
not only to the cache owner, but to all other folks who are
interested in searching for the cache.
This cache has been created to
bolster the use of the dreaded
DNF log, and at the same time
will allow the cache seeker the opportunity to sign a logbook
and exchange trade items even if the cache was not found.
This cache even offers a "FTDNF"
(first to did not find) prize. Be the first to log a DNF
to receive your very first
"FTDNF" prize. Also included is a more traditional "FTF" prize
if you are first to sign the "Found it" log also hidden at the
cache site.
At the listed co-ordinates you
will find a poorly hidden container. This is the "DNF" container.
Inside the DNF container you will find some trade items and a "DNF"
logbook. Sign the "DNF" logbook only if you are unsuccessful in
locating the actual "Found it" log. Then return to this cache page
and post your "DNF"
. Don't forget to log any
subsequent DNF's
or log notes for each return
visit.
I know, I know, what about all
those numbers hounds out there who just do not feel fulfilled
unless they get that coveted smiley face and add to their total
find count listed just after their Geo-name? Relax, read on to see
how you can still post a smiley face
for this cache too.
In addition to the DNF container
and log, I have placed a very well hidden “Found it” logbook (hence
the 4 1/2 star rating) nearby. You have to find and sign the “Found
it” logbook to claim the FTF prize and log your smiley face
. That’s all there is to it. Easy,
HUH?
Printed at the top of the “Found
it” log you will find a code word. Email the code word to the cache
owner for verification purposes and only then will you be allowed
to log a smiley face
. All other
find logs without first being verified
will be deleted. Please do not include the code word or any other
spoilers in the online logs.
It is very important to place
everything back just as it was found to enhance the experience for
the next finder. Please, no PAF's either. The concept deployed here
is such that when you finally do locate the "found it" log you will
be glad that you didn't ask for help and probably will want to kick
yourself in the rump for not seeing it sooner.
Update:
The "Found it" log is within a small radius of the DNF log.
This cache has been very popular with local cacher's and has
spawning at least two other caches in other states crediting this
one as inspiration for the placement of those caches.

keep on cach’n.
