Elysium Geocacherorum
In classical times, virtuous souls spent the afterlife in an edenic neighborhood of the underworld known as the Elysian Fields (the Champs Elysées in French). The heroes Odysseus, Heracles, Theseus, and Aeneas all took jaunts to Elysium while still living—quite the feat, and a great metaphor in the whole "heroic journey" paradigm. Of course, having just made my third caching ascent of Red Hill in as many months, I've felt a bit more like Sisyphus in Tartarus. Each time, though, I've paused in this spot and marveled at its subtle glory.
For a container I chose the same type that the majority of the Turkey Vulture Gang used on their epic August expedition up this "hill" to its magnificent summit. It should be somewhat winter friendly. Please re-hide to conceal the container.
It's easiest to find this trail on your way down from the summit, at Marker #5 on the trail more traveled (near RJB43NH's "I Did What!" cache).
Red Hill from 25B
(By the way, if you ever had high school French, chances are pretty good that you'll be familiar with the tune that was going through my head as I descended the mountain the other day... for those of you reading this description on the web, here's a link to that song.)
