Well, about 8 months ago Buckette and I found Flash in A Cache
GC14FY5 and took the T card. I finally got around to placing a
new cache, better late than never!
Chase Sanctuary has large hemlocks, beech, maples and oaks, old
road beds and streams.
Although no camping is allowed in the sanctuary, Buckette and I
are avid campers. Between us we own 3 or 4 tents, all of which can
be backpacked. One is a 4 season tent, which we have used down to
15 below zero.
No, the tent has no wood stove! It simply has heavier-duty poles
and fabric with very little mesh, so it can stand up to a snow
load. The tent we seem to use a lot is a Tadpole by The North Face.
A trifle small for both of us (I can't really stretch out when
Buckette is also in the tent), it is compact and light, and
free-standing (doesn't have to be staked out), which makes it ideal
for desert areas as well as New England.
The trail is very well marked. Park near the sign for the
sanctuary, stay on the yellow-blazed trail past the junction for
the red trail that goes left, continue to another junction and
follow the red trail that goes to the right.
There are 2 brook crossings which should be easy even for
children. Round trip is about 1.5 miles. GPSr accuracy only 35 feet
due to tree cover.
Initial items include plastic toy Indians and a travel bug.
