Geocache Description:

A cache placed in the location of the pre-fire cache. Sadly the Alba Schoolhouse was lost in the CZU Lightning Complex Fire, but already the community is organizing to replace their beloved gathering place. The cache is NOT below ground level, be careful around burned stumps, the ground can be unstable.

This cache is located in the vicinity of the Old Alba School on Alba Road one of three roads that wind from the San Lorenzo Valley up to Bonny Doon.

Alba is the Scottish Gaelic name for Scotland used until the tenth century for the kingdoms of the Scots and the Picts north of the Firth of Clyde and the Firth of Forth. Alba Road, built in 1886, was originally known as Ben Lomond Road. It winds up Ben Lomond Mountain connecting the town of Ben Lomond on Highway 9 with the community of Bonny Doon. The Ben Lomond Mountain Range which extends from Eagle Rock to the University of California, Santa Cruz, was named by John Burns, a native of Scotland who emigrated to Canada and worked his way west in 1852, settling in the San Lorenzo Valley. He named it after the mountain, Ben Lomond, of his native land.

The Alba School was built in 1895 and discontinued in 1940. It was formerly used as a community center and library.
