This walk is on the south side of the River Ayr and there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy some excellent views along the route. The History of the area can be examined in our other 'Oswald' caches. Park at the listed waypoint and follow the waymarked ‘Waggonway Trail’ or 'The River Ayr Way' or check out the 'Auchincruive' section of the walk on the related web page for further information/history and suggested walks. We would recommend stout footwear and a good look at a map before you set out. Google Earth or an O/S map will offer shorter versions of the walk. We have not included these in the description as the walk along the trail will take some beating. Parking: Please note that parking is available 24hours a day. If the gates at the Bridge are closed enter via the main Agricultural college entrance and turn right. This access has an automatic barrier so don’t be put off. Follow this road past Oswald Hall and the parking is at the riverside on the right. This route in gives a close view of Oswald Hall where Robert Adams work can be appreciated. This walk zips by in short sections with changes in view from woodland to riverside to cliff top in one neat little package. The cache is located within the area of a very obvious feature where you can rest your weary legs in anticipation of the return journey. The full loop from the parking waypoint is a touch under three miles. There is an alternative approach from 'Mousey's' GC1HJ65 at about 1 mile for the round trip and there is some limited roadside parking if your careful. Follow the River Ayr Way west. The cache location is contained within the confines of a viewpoint. The cache will not induce vertigo and this information should aid you in your search. You also do not need to leave the fenced area. This one is not designed to be easy. Tree cover will hamper your satellite signal and the coordinates listed will take you as close to the cache site as the satnav would allow. There is a seat to rest up. Sit and contemplate, and no, thats not a clue! The cache is hidden in plain sight... and can be seen from the centre of the site where a bench once sat.. This is difficult! It is based on a series of caches in Scarbourgh that drove us to distraction. Happy hunting....(Bring a pen or pencil)
