Geocache Description:

This cache takes you near a beaver habitat in Mary Cummings Park.
See the clever beaver deceivers placed to keep the beavers from
flooding the area more than they do now.

The initial cache contains items related to the animal and insect
life of the area, including two new travel bugs.

Unless the weather has been very dry, do not try to go directly to
this from other caches in the same park. The ground in between,
even if there are apparent trails, can be very swampy. It is best
approached from the trailhead at the fire hydrant on Muller Road at
N 42 28.559° W 071° 12.122. Follow the trails from here and you
will stay well above water level. In bug season, arm yourself with
bug repellent.

Mary Cummings Park is a rich natural resource with diverse
wildlife habitats. Over 130 different species of wild birds have
been logged in the park. In 1930, the City of Boston accepted over
200 acres of land in Burlington and Woburn under the following
condition: "in trust nevertheless for the following purposes and
uses: To hold and keep the same forever open as a public pleasure
ground, and to maintain and care for the same in a suitable manner
in accordance with that purpose"

Friends of Mary Cummings Park Inc was founded in 2007 as a
non-profit corporation whose sole purpose was to defend Mary
Cummings Park from the pressures of development and to provide an
organization which can help bring a vision for sustainable use of
the park while respecting its historical recreational uses and
natural environment. For more information please visit
the Friends
of Mary Cummings Park
. The geocaches in this park help
introduce this great little known natural resource to more
people.
