Geocache Description:

Located at one of the many stone arch bridges located around Hillsboro, this one is on the Shedd Jones Road.

As the name implies, these arches aren't golden! This cache is located within walking distance of the parking on either side of the bridge where Jones Road intersects with Beard Brook Road. People are always here taking pictures of this beautiful bridge. It was rebuilt in 1936 after ice & high water spread it for over a quarter mile, and this was done by using the old wooden frame technique, utilizing a "keystone" at the top of the arches. When the wooden frame was removed, the stones of the bridge settled and locked the whole thing together. We've stood on the high side & watched the brook going around on the Beard Brook Road side 4 feet deep during extremely high water due to ice build-up, you couldn't even see the arches on the upper side. The bridge has never been closed for repairs in recent years due to it's perfect construction. Quite a testament to yankee inginuity!
