Geocache Description:

This is number 8 in a series of 8 caches intended to lead you through the boondocks on mining/ranching roads from Pinto Valley on US 60 to the top of Pinal Peak at almost 8,000’ elevation, then back down into Globe. Fantastic scenery, old mines and a chance to get up into pine and fir forests on Pinal Peak. As of spring 2010 all roads can be easily driven with a vehicle of reasonable clearance. 4WD is not required and there is no brush of significance. We will change this description if cachers report deteriorating road conditions.

This trip is designed to be done without a map. There is a cache at every intersection, a few hundred feet along the road you need to take. If you are not comfortable without a map, send us an email (giving your actual email address) and we will send you a Garmin gdb file showing the tracks you need to take. GPSBabel may allow you to convert the file to another format if you need to.

Caches 1 through 7 are 4,000’ to 5,000’ elevation; number 8 is at 6,000’ on the Pinal Peak Road, and Pinal Peak is almost 8,000’. Number 8 and the peak may be unreachable in the coldest part of winter due to snow.

All caches are lock n lock containers, close to the roads and very easy to locate. This series is about the ride, not the hide. The entire trip, if you choose to go to the peak from number 8 then down to Globe, is 40 miles.

This is the last cache in the series. Turn uphill and drive to almost 8,000’ elevation and do a couple caches placed by others. Return to this spot and then follow the signs down to Globe. No need to return the way you came.

[If you are starting on this end of the series, go downhill on Road 899.]
