In town of Araq Al Amir (Caves of the Prince), which lies in Wadi
Seer, you will find the Castle of the Slave, or Qasr Al
Abid. Built around the top of the castle wall are many eroded
carvings of Lions. There is one other animal of preserved quality
along the base of the Eastern side. Also a magnificent Lion on the
top of the Western wall.
The Jewish historian, Josephus, wrote about this castle in his
work Antiquities of the Jews, in which he says he was sure
that the castle was built by Hyrcanus between 187-175 B.C. He
described a strong castle of white stone surrounded by a fine park
and lake. Josephus described the carvings as "animals of prodigious
magnitude."
Along the way back from the Palace there are a series of caves
up the hillside. Check the waypoint below. Great views of the
valley from this vantage point.
The cache is a lock'n'lock container with a logbook, 2 pencils,
a pencil sharpener, and an eraser. No swag was left.
