Hämeenkylmänkukka (Pulsatilla patens) on Suomessa rauhoitettu monivuotinen, mätästävä ja toukokuussa lehdettömänä kukkiva harjukasvi. Sen voi löytää vain Etelä-Hämeen harjualueilta, joissa se suosii valoisia ja kuivia kasvupaikkoja sekä hakeutuu mielellään esim. hakkuu- ja metsänraja-alueille. Lehdet kasvavat vasta kukinnan jälkeen ja kestävät vain yhden kesän. Vanhempien yksilöiden vahvasta ja haarovasta juurakosta voi kasvaa jopa toistasataa lehteä. Kasvia on toisinaan pidetty Kanta-Hämeen epävirallisena nimikkokasvina.

Kuten lähisukulaisensa kangasvuokko (P. vernalis), hämeenkylmänkukka harvinaistui vuosisadan alussa hyvin voimakkaasti ihmisen toimesta. Kasvia kerättiin liian paljon myytäväksi mm. toreille. Hämeenkylmänkukkayksilöitä on jäljellä enää alle 3 000, eikä sitä saa kerätä.

Kätköä lähellä oleva harju on luonnonsuojelualuetta, jolla kasvaa rauhoitettuja kylmänkukkia, joten jos liikut luonnonsuojelualueella, käytä polkuja. Kätkö ei sijaitse luonnonsuojelualueella.

Vaikka joidenkin karttatiedostojen mukaan kätkö on lähes ”Drive In”, ei kätkön lähelle voi ajaa autolla. Suositeltava parkkipaikka löytyy esim. koordinaateista N 60° 57.522 E 024° 37.542.

The eastern pasque flower (Pulsatilla patens) is a tussock-forming perennial of esker woods, that flowers in May before developing leaves. It is protected in Finland, and can only be found in the esker areas of South Häme. There it prefers sunny and dry sites like margins of forests or forest clearings. The leaves do not grow until after the bloom, and last for one season only. Up to more than a hundred leaves can grow from the strong and branching rootstock of older individuals.

Like its close relative, the spring pasque flower (P. vernalis), this species declined strongly in the beginning of the century. It was gathered in too great numbers, and sold at markets. Only less than 3 000 specimen grows in Finland, so don’t pick the flowers.

Near the cache there is a protected area, where eastern pasque flowers grow. The area is marked in terrain. So when you are on the protected area, please use paths. The cache is not on protected area.

Although your map may seem to indicate for a “Drive In”-cache, don’t drive there. Recommendable parking space is in N 60° 57.522 E 024° 37.542.
