It's no surprise that
Venona
placed a clue out here during his 2008 activities. On the walk out
here you pass all sorts of signs warning against photographing - or
sketching! - the nearby Lockheed Martin facility. How wonderfully
retro-Cold War! Then near this cache there is a locked gate to NASA
Ames/Moffett Federal Airfield too. One can just imagine the snarky
old Russian spy out here with some ancient, clanky ComBloc 35mm
film camera, hiding in the bushes, eagerly trying to capture
degenerate capitalist secrets.
This cache marks the ending intersection of this stretch of the
Bay Trail. Here you're surrounded by keep out signs - Moffett,
Lockheed, and the NWS which ironically allows only hunters with the
appropriate "red card", hmmm...
There is no need to trespass, annoy the neighbors, swim under or
hang off of the bridge, or anything like that. Dogs are allowed
here if on leash. The only access is from the east, on flat graded
dirt trails. The best parking is at the trailhead at the end of
Carl Road (see additional waypoint) which will make your walk/ride
to the cache about 1.2 miles. This is not a drive-up cache and you
cannot access it from Moffett or Lockeed property.
This San Francisco Bay Trail has posted hours of 6:30am to
one-half hour after sunset. Please respect park hours and
rules.
The title of this cache is a tip of the hat to one of my
favorite movies. This bridge is really not too far at all. :)
