1973 Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Zor: This was a cache that was fun to put together. For those who never solved it, 1973 refers to 19:73, or 73 minutes after 7pm, also known as 8:13pm. If you loaded this cache page at exactly 8:13pm server time, the cache page would show you an image that had the final coordinates.

Big thanks to those who solved the puzzle and to those who found the cache with brute force. Be sure to check out Rev Slippery's video of us going out to retrieve the cache.

Geocache Description:

As many cachers around Moncton know, I am not a fan of doing puzzle caches. They are not something I am very good at so I typically skip them unless they are really easy, or someone else gives me the final coordinates. This cache is my answer to the many puzzle caches I have not been able to solve on my own.

Unlike other puzzles, this puzzle is not about figuring out the final coordinates, but merely how to see them on this cache page. 1973 is the name of the cache but it could have also been named 1684, 73 after 19 or even 19:73. They all refer to the same thing. How to see the final coordinates. Can you figure it out?

Here are some notable events from 1973 according to Wikipedia:

  • Roe v. Wade: The U.S. Supreme Court overturns state bans on abortion.
  • Toronto: Construction on the CN Tower begins.
  • Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom opens the modern London Bridge.
  • Federal Express officially begins operations, with the launch of 14 small aircraft from Memphis International Airport. On that night, Federal Express delivers 186 packages to 25 U.S. cities from Rochester, New York, to Miami, Florida.
  • The Sears Tower in Chicago is finished, becoming the world's tallest building.
  • A patent for the ATM is granted to Donald Wetzel, Tom Barnes and George Chastain.
  • Former White House aide Alexander Butterfield informs the United States Senate Watergate Committee that President Richard Nixon had secretly recorded potentially incriminating conversations.
  • The film American Graffiti is released.
  • Soyuz 12, the first Soviet manned flight since the Soyuz 11 tragedy in 1971, is launched.
  • The United Nations recognizes the independence of Guinea-Bissau.
  • Egypt and Israel sign a United States-sponsored cease-fire accord.
  • Matthew George Stephen Klem is born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

With all that information, you would hope that it would help you solve the puzzle. I cannot guarantee that to be the case
