Geocache Description:

This is the sixth (well it had to be didn't it?) in our series of seven caches around Woolston New Cut, the now disused canal. You are looking for a small Tupperware box which contains a log, pencil & one or two other bits & bobs. The above coordinates are not the final location, they are a possible car parking location across the A57 near The Paddington House Hotel.
PLEASE NOTE, DUE TO TREE COVER GPS MAY STRUGGLE ALSO DUE TO IMPROVEMENTS MADE TO WALKWAYS THIS CACHE IS NOW OVERLOOKED.

At the end of 1983 & the start of 1984 my brother (Hi Steve) & myself began to watch a Channel 4 re-run of a 1960s cult TV series starring and co-created by Patrick McGoohan which combined spy fiction with elements of science fiction, allegory and psychological drama.
It was called The Prisoner & despite the fact that they showed some episodes in the wrong order & one went out for several minutes with no sound at all, we were hooked bad style! It followed a former British agent who, after abruptly resigning from his position, was held captive in a small seaside village by an unidentified power that wished to establish the reason for his resignation. Little did we realise that this would be the last time it was to be shown on British terrestrial TV. However the fascinating news for fans of the series is that a remake is in production & will be on our screens (ITV4) at the end of this year, reportedly starring Sir Ian McKellen& Jim Caviezel.

This is my tribute to this wonderful series & also to Patrick McGoohan who sadly died aged 80 just under 3 weeks ago. (For a few hints & a taster of the best British sci-fi series ever made follow this link (visit link)

1. Take the number of the main character played by Patrick McGoohan & subtract 1.

2. Take the first, eleventh & last letters of the village logo. Transpose them, eg A=1 B=2 C=3 etc & add them together.

3. Number of episodes that Leo McKern played No2.

4. The car that Patrick McGoohan's character drives in the opening sequence shown at the beginning of each episode is a Lotus ?

5.Take the first 5 letters of the location The Prisoner was almostly entirely filmed at. Transpose them, eg A=1 B=2 C=3 add them together, & sutract 2.

6. The Prisoner was 17 episodes long.Going by the original UK airing sequence which episode was The Chimes of Big Ben?

7.The village was patrolled by a white ballon like device that controlled the residents actions. It could either render one unconcious or even suffocate them! Take the first 2 letters of it's name, transpose them & add them together.

8. The number of the person Patrick McGoohan spends the whole series trying to identify.

9. The number of the person who is the administrator of the village.

10 Free For All was episode what in the original UK airing sequence?

NOW GO FIND THAT CACHE & REMEMBER YOU'RE NOT A NUMBER, YOU'RE A FREE MAN!
