Terra de Remences: Sant Miquel de Castelló Traditional Geocache

Et trobes en un lloc que a través de segles ha estat un poblat reducte ibèric ausoceretà. Més tard possiblement un temple romà dedicat a Mercuri. Després “oratorium” visigòtic sota l’advocació de Sant Miquel. Durant la Marca Hispànica lloc fortificat de reduïdes dimensions per defensar la frontera.

Més tard fou possessió dels vescomtes de Besalú amb el nom de “Castro Castilionis”, que foren anomenats també vescomtes de Bas éssent llur residencia fins que baixaren al Castell Palau del Mallol. Des d’aleshores fou ocupat per un “castlà” que el tenia pels vescomtes.

En el segle XV fou concedit pel rei Joan II a Francesc de Verntallat cabdill dels Remences, anomenant-se Castelló de Bas.

Fou assetjat i conquerit pels francesos i més tard alliberat pels pagesos patriotes a la guerra de la independencia. Canvia de mans durant la guerra Carlista i sofreix les consequències dels fets de 1936. Finalment reconstruit pel grup excursionista i esportiu Gironí l’any 1972.

La capella actual de Sant Miquel és la romanalla de l’antiga capella del Castell.

You are in a place that through centuries has been a village Iberian redoubt ausoceretà. Later possibly a roman temple devoted to Mercuri. Afterwards Visigothic "oratorium" under the dedication of Sant Miquel. During the Hispanic Mark place fortified of reduced dimensions to defend the border.

The current chapel of Sant Miquel is the remainder of the antique chapel of the Castle.
