No Blarney! Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

GeoMimi55: Sadly, the glory days of No Blarney are long gone and it’s time to say goodbye. The stinging nettles have reduced the finds here to only 2 this year.

Geocache Description:

Coords can be hard to nail down due to heavy tree cover and evil gnomes. No bushwhacking necessary. Also, the Stingin' Nettles our sly little elves once planted show up late spring through summer. [}:)] They're meant to keep Muggles away so 'tis fair warnin' not to attempt to approach in yer kilt! DO NOT venture down the hill. Look for the 5 fingered Maple.

The original cache container here was a camouflage painted microwave which was the cookie baking Elve’s BO. But, due to a strange turn of events, it was destroyed on January 4, 2009. (Note to cache hiders: Make sure your cache is marked on the outside with Official Geocaching labels!

And now, for the history of this interesting place:
Legend is told that this valley and small forest along the river was once enchanted. Centuries ago, a very clumsy Giant with a huge appetite and wee bit of a brain roamed the valley, thrashing, crashing and eating whatever he pleased. His name was Klutz.
All of the little woodland creatures were terrified of him. Especially the Elves. They had been fortunate in avoiding his detection, but SOMEONE told! (Had to be the Weasels, an to keep him off of THEIR trail, I‘m sure!) They told Klutz that Elves were a delicacy, small, but pudgy enough and with crème filled centers! Klutz could hardly wait for morning to go on an Elf hunt!
Well, it so happened that a little birdie overheard what was happening so she flew off and told her elf friends right away!
Aye, an they devised a brilliant plan, they did!
Their baking skills were magical, so they baked a batch of cookies that looked just like them, dug a hole in the ground about a mile deep and waited for Klutz. As the Giant approached, he saw the elves (actually the look-alike cookies!) all lined up on the ridge. One step, two steps then suddenly Klutz disappeared into the hole the elves had waiting for him! Success!!! The whole forest exploded in celebration! They all pitched in and buried that Giant! The only thing remaining of Klutz today is his green hand poking out of the ground as if he were still waiting for a Crème filled Elf. An he could smell ‘em bakin’ every night ya know, as THAT is where the Keeblers moved their kitchen; right over the top o’ him!
So, there ya have it...an enchanted valley, elves, giants, cookies...I can almost smell them now!
Hopefully, this kept ya entertained whilst drivin’ out to this magical place
