Geocache Description:

The monument was originally created in 1927 by Giuseppe Moretti. It is one of the few monuments conceived, built and dedicated as a memorial to the brave men and women who not only fought for both the North and the South in the Civil War but also in World War I. It is a monument intended to unfiy the country which was still badly torn even up until World War I. In 1974 the obelisk and angel were destroyed by a tornado, then during the 1980s construction of Interstate 65 obstructed the monument to public viewing. The new monument has been completely restored and was relocated to its present site in the early 1990s. This site was part of a 1500 acre tract of land known as the "Noel Place" during The Battle of Nashville on December 15-16, 1864. Both armies occupied portions of the farm during the battle.

Also note the huge tree adjacent to the monument. This tree: The Basket Oak was located on the farm and has been documented through the years as having been a large tree during the Battle of Nashville.
