Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series of caches inspired by great paintings and movements in art history.

Here's the art history part: the 19th-century movement known as Impressionism took is name from one of Claude Monet's paintings, Impressionism, Sunrise (1872). A key characteristic of the movement was its emphasis on capturing the changing qualities of light. For the first time artists often took their work out of the studio and painted in the open air.

Claude Monet (1840-1926) was not only one of the early leaders in the Impressionist movement, he was also one of its most prolific artists, still producing paintings in his 80s. He often painted a subject over and over, at different times of day and in different types of light. A favorite subject was the play of light on the pond and water lilies in his garden at Giverny. He produced about 250 water lily paintings in the last 30 years of his life.

I placed this cache in a location Monet would have loved—a rocky outcrop overlooking a beautiful pond (water lilies in season). The walk to the cache is easy, following a well-marked path that is part of the Groton Trails Network, but the final climb is steep and there's a drop-off on the other side. Take care while searching. No need to go over the edge for this one. The container is a 1.7 qt. lock & lock.

Gamlin Crystal Spring is property of the Groton Conservation Trust. Unlike most GCT properties, hunting is allowed on this parcel according to the town website.

A small unpaved parking area is located at N 42° 37.875, W 71° 30.615. There is more space along the road approx. 0.1 miles north (and less mud).
