Heroes Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Yohola: With no response concerning owner maintenance on the water damaged container from the CO in several months now, it's time to put a stake in this one and open the area up to a CO that will maintain their hides when needed.

Ample warnings and time have been given. If the CO wishes to replace this hide, they will have to submit a new hide for review.

Geocache Description:

Short tour of Marietta

I wanted to make my first hide special, so I placed it near the Marietta Square (where I went many times as a kid) and the starting point is a monument dedicated to the Cobb County public safety professionals who have been killed in the line of duty. It's special to me because my grandfather's name is on the monument! The above coordinates represent the starting point. Depending on what time you go, you should be able to park very near the coords, but the Square is busy during business hours, so don't be surprised if you have to park a block or two away during those times.

There are 4 total destinations to this Mutli. They will take you on a short tour of Marietta's memorials to fallen Heroes and you'll end up at the Marietta Fire Museum. If you do go during business hours take a free tour. Otherwise, be sure to look in the window and you'll spot several interesting things including an 1879 Silsby Steamer and a 1952 Chevrolet panel truck. If you can take the tour, there are many, many other artifacts housed inside.

Be aware of Muggles...they are all over this area during the day. Please use stealth.

Cache is small and can only hold small items, like trade coins. Please bring your own pencil - container is small.

Note on the ratings:
I gave it a 1.5 for both ease and terrain. For the terrain, it's all very accessible and total distance traveled from the first monument to the cache is less than a quarter mile (about .23 m total). Shouldn't take more than 5 - 10 minutes total (but, of course, you can take your time and enjoy the area)! While there are short-cuts down stairs, it is all accessible from sidewalks/level ground if needed. For ease, all you have to do is visit all three of the coords listed below and get some info off of them to figure out the final coords. I didn't want this to be tricky; I wanted you to see some monuments that you may have never seen before. And earn a smiley for doing so!

Here's what you need to know:
To get the coords of the cache, you'll have to get the following information off of the monuments at the following locations:

#1 N 33 57.162, W 084 32.929

Find Steve Reeves' birth year. Use the last number in the year as 'B' below.

#2 N 33 57.166, W 084 32.875

There's a small plaque on the ground to the left of the monument with a year on it. Use the last digit in the year as 'A' below.

#3 N 33 57.227, W 084 32.777

This monument has four sides. One side has the word 'Honor' at the top. On that side you'll find the name Freddie. Count the number of letters in Freddie's last name. Use this number as 'C' below.

Cache location:
Insert the numbers you figured out from steps 1, 2 & 3:

N 33 57.ABB
W 084 32.CCB

Note: I took the average coords of at least 50 readings at all of the locations. I also verified with Google Earth. Coords should be fairly close. If you find anything radically different, let me know and I'll check it out.

THANKS! Enjoy your tour of Cobb County's Heroes!

Congrats iikoto!!! FTF.
