Geocache Description:

This cache is not at the coordinates listed but is within 1.5 miles. This should be a quick roadside micro cache. Please bring your own pencil.

The name was chosen because almost directly in front of you when you are standing at the cache is a small island about 400 feet away and about 15 feet in diameter with one tree and some brush standing on it. This little island has been a nesting site for a pair of Loons for the past few years. During the nesting season there are warning buoys set out a few hundred feet from the island to keep boaters away. When the site is active the Loons can be seen with their young riding on their back while they swim around the pond. According to the state wildlife people this and some nests in the Wachusett Reservoir are the most southern Loon nesting sites in the world.

This pond is called Paradise Pond and it is used for kayaking and canoeing during the warm weather. Fishing is allowed and I have seen some very substantial bass caught here.

Now to make this a little more interesting you’ll have to do two things, first find the USGS location for the top of Wachusett Mountain and second project a line 9461 ft on a heading of 56.643° will bring you to within 10 feet of this cache. Of course for those that know the area you will be able to figure it out from the description.

There a $1 bill registered at www.wheresgeorge.com (spend it wisely) for the first finder.
