Geocache Description:

An easy drive-up cache with a little engineering lesson.

Quite unbenownst to the majority of the general public are the safety issues surrounding the ubiquitous Power Pole where service life is a major concern.

From one pole tester's website one can read:

"Questions such as:
1. Has the pole the minimum needed pole strength?
2. What is the total strength of the pole?
3. What is the degree of deterioration of the pole?
4. What is the remaining serviceable life of the pole?"

There are a number of testing methods that are employed to check the overall 'health' of these monuments to our electrical distribution system and the results of those tests either dictate whether a pole is to be replaced or reinforced.

Here you will see an example of a power pole that has been braced with a section of 'C-channel' and that location was picked for a reason...see if you can determine why.

And while you are at it, find the cache!
