Geocache Description:

Large for a micro but big enough for small trade items. BYOP

This site is known to be near the place where Hannah Dustin was captured by the Indians in 1697. Her newborn baby and others were killed in an Indian raid, inspired by the French who were bribing Native American tribes all along the frontier with guns and other goods in exchange for English scalps. Hannah and others taken were to be gathered up and sold to other tribes in Canada. Hannah, her nurse, and a young boy from the Worcester area who had been in captivity for some 18 months killed their captors at night somewhere near Contookook, NH. They managed to steal a canoe and paddle down the Merrimack River to present day Hudson, NH, where they were received by English settlers who helped her return to her family.

This is the second of three caches dedicated to Hannah Dustin. The first is near downtown Haverhill and celebrates the statue erected in her honor. She is the first female in America to have a statue erected in her honor.

The third cache is hidden near the garrison her husband completed building when she returned. It survives as one of the earliest examples of a 2-story 17th century brick building in America.

For this cache do not park in the nearby private business parking lot. Park across the street in the high school parking lot and walk over.
