Geocache Description:

This cache is located on the other side of the Mojave River at a point where there is usually water year round. Easy drive on well groomed dirt road.

Small container placed in a pile of rocks that you can see from the road. It is on the other side of a fence that has easy access at the river. Placed to encourage you to visit a beautiful oasis in the otherwise harsh Mojave Desert.

This is one of the few places that the Mojave River surfaces, so there is lots of wildlife in the area. You can usually just drive through the crossing, but since it was early May and the water was a foot deep, I decided to hoof it to a dry point farther west and walk back.

Take the Afton Canyon exit and follow the BLM signs to the Afton Canyon campground. The dirt road is well maintained year round and 4wd is not necessary. Observe caution during any monsoon, and be aware of the usual desert critters.

Bring a picnic lunch there is a BLM campground with tables, shade and outhouses.
