Geocache Description:

The cache is in the maroon forest, near the calvary (N 47° 47,447' E 18° 57,155')

THE TOWN
With this cache I invite you to Nagymaros, a town near the Danube. Nagymaros is a beautiful town in north Hungary with about 4500 inhabitants. The town is in the foot of Börzsöny. The Danube bend is one of the most beautiful places in Hungary. On the other side of the Danube is the historical town of Visegrád and the castle of Visegrád.

In the 18th century there was a huge plague disease in which a lot of people lost their lives, so there was a need for bringing in German (Kraut) people to repopulate the area. Nowadays there are a lot of Kraut families in the town, and also there are some traditional events, like Kraut picnic. Children have to learn German in schools, but they have the opportunity to learn English as well.

Watch the other waypoints, they are interesting:

-The roman catholic church of the town which is in the way up to the calvary.

-A monument of the flood in 2002. In 2002 the Danube was so high that it flooded a lot of weekend houses and the inhabitants had to defend the town with sandbags. Since than there were two other huge floods, the biggest in 2006. On the walls of some houses in the town you can see the marks that show how high the water was.

-The primary school of the town, which is especially interesting, because it has different entrances for boys and girls, but today both genders can use both gates. Now the school works in two different buildings, with mixed classes.

THE CACHE
The cache is on the calvary of Nagymaros. The view from the calvary hill is magnificent. To get there you have to climb 167 steps. Near the calvary is a marron forest with the cache. (N 47° 47,447' E 18° 57,155') You can find the cache in a tree group at the given coordinates, the treegroup once stood out of three trees, but two of them were cut out. It is inside a chump.
