Geocache Description:

This lookout was built in 1933 and was staffed into the mid-1980's. National Smokejumper Association members have been doing restoration work on the lookout over the last couple summers (2007/2008). This lookout is on the National Historic Lookout Register.

This is a very nice location to view the majestic Swan Range and part of the Mission Range of mountains, with the Seeley-Swan valleys nestled between. You look down on Seeley Lake to the east, and the town of the same name. To the south, you look down upon Placid Lake and Tupper Lake. It is a beautiful sight when there is valley fog, as it often appears that the fog in the Placid watershed is flowing like water over Tupper Lake and down the contour into the Clearwater River and Seeley Lake.

You can drive to within a short distance of the lookout to a locked gate and small parking area. Turn west off Hwy 83 onto Riverview Drive and continue over bridge on Clearwater River and on straight past Snowmass Drive. Once past Snowmass, bear right at each fork of the main-traveled dirt road system (do not use the "two-track" trails) until you arrive at the locked gate near the top of the knob. The small parking area is at N47*09.957 W113*31.946.

The cache is an old military 'decon' container.
