Geocache Description:

This Cache is dedicated to the beginning of Milford NH.

Burn's Rock is located on the old Brookline Road, this historic site is named for one of Milford's first settlers. In 1959, the Association of the Descendants of John Burns donated Burn's rock, the land on which it rests, and a right-of-way to the highway to the Milford Historical Society. Two inscribed boulders mark the entrance of the pine tree-lined site. The bronze tablet set in the boulder was dedicated in 1923.

The tablet reads:
In Memory of John Burns
A Scotch Emigrant
The first white settler of Milford New Hampshire.
He came to America in 1738 – in 1742 he purchased 100 acres of land surrounding this rock and in this natural fireplace, he built his campfire while clearing the land and building his log cabin. In the autumn of 1745 he moved his family here coming up the Merrimack and Souhegan rivers in a canoe from Nottingham West (now Hudson NH)
He died August 4 1782 Buried in Amherst NH
Erected by the descendent's of John Burns 1923

This is a great place to enjoy a little time. Bring a picnic and stay a while.
