Geocache Description:

The first ammo box cache in Thornewood Preserve

Thornewood's Bridle Trail just opened this month (May 2009)! It doubles the number and length of trails in Thornewood Preserve to ... 2 and 2 miles. The Bridle Trail serenely winds through second-growth redwood and Douglas fir forest, and oak canopy between Dennis Martin Creek to the east and Schilling Lake Trail to the west. So now you can do 4 miles round trip and about 350 vertical feet on these two trails.

The new Bridle Trail is now open to hiking and equestrian use. Dogs on leash are also allowed on the trail. Information and maps for Thornewood Open Space Preserve as well as other preserves in the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District can be found at (visit link)

Cache is SW of a multi-trunked redwood with a large burl base. It is uncovered and at ground level.

GPS reception in redwoods is notoriously poor, and this cache - even though big (how many ammo boxes have you not been able to find?) -could be difficult because the accuracy of my GPSr was 19 feet at the cache and 24-30 feet nearby. So you may want to read the hint as to best approach.
