"A Cache A Day While On Vaca - "Mt. Sugarloaf Adventure"

The Mt. Sugarloaf Adventure

My adventure begins at the Mt. Sugarloaf State Reservation. Mind you, I don’t think that I have ever been here before so I was clueless to what was ahead of me. As I continued into the park I noticed that there seemed to be only enough room for one car to travel at a time. That was my # 1 concern. Thought to myself, “What happens if there is another car that wants to go by? How would that happen?” Continued on and looked to my right, I noticed that we were at an incline & that the drop was way too visible to me, if you know what I mean. So all I could think about was, “What if the car fell over?” All I knew was that I needed to snap out of it and keep in mind that everything was going to be just fine. FINALLY, I got to the top. I took advantage of the breath taking view. Got out of my car and walked over & admired the spectacular view. I had to take a picture so I could share it my with friends and family. As I headed back to the car I thought to myself, I should share this wonderful view with my fellow cachers. So grab your picnic basket and head up for a picnic. So I got back into my car and headed out. That is when I noticed that there indeed was another way out & that it was actually a one-way mountain. LOL!! As I headed down, I came into another concern; a couple of dcr trucks were parked to the side. Remember when I told you that there was only enough room for one car at a time, well I meant it. I was scared to death trying to figure out how I was going to get down if I couldn’t pass those two trucks! OMG!! Thought to myself, I think this car is small enough to squeeze by let’s give it a shot. I DID IT!!!! Passed them and down I went. Got back down to the entrance and thanked god for bringing me back down safely.

So the moral of the story is that although I was scared, it was definitely worth it!!

Here are some facts about Mt. Sugarloaf:

Mt. Sugarloaf offers a breath-taking view of the Connecticut River, the Pioneer Valley, and the Pelham and Berkshire Hills. Consisting of two peaks, North and South Sugarloaf, the Reservation offers picnicking, scenic viewing and hiking. An auto road winds to the summit, making South Sugarloaf Mountain accessible by private automobiles. Available on the summit is a pavilion for scenic viewing and picnicking.
Mt. Sugarloaf, composed of a prominent sandstone rock called Sugarloaf Arkose, is a fine example of the Connecticut Valley's geological history. From its summit can be seen some of the best scenic views of the different types of agricultural landscape of the Connecticut River Valley.
