In the viewpoint of the Salto do Cavalo, one of the
highest points of the island (805 meters), you can see the
coastline south and north of St. Miguel,
in communion with a stunning landscape of the valley of Furnas. To
get there, it follows by a mountain road, through grass, bushes and
flowers.
On the coast north of the island of St. Miguel, the population
density is lower,
offering a more open landscape of hills and green meadows
where grazing all year, hundreds of dairy cows.
In the evening, starts milking, usually made in the pasture where
the animals are almost all year, resisting the worst weather
stoicism.

No miradouro do Salto do
Cavalo, um dos pontos mais altos da ilha (805 metros), é possível
observar as costas Sul e Norte de S. Miguel,
em comunhão com uma
paisagem deslumbrante sobre o vale das Furnas. Para lá chegar,
segue-se por uma estrada de montanha,
por entre pastagens, matas
e flores.
Na costa Norte da ilha de
S. Miguel, a densidade populacional é mais
reduzida,
oferecendo uma paisagem
mais aberta de encostas e prados verdejantes, onde pastam todo o
ano,
centenas de vacas
leiteiras.
Ao fim da tarde, começa a
ordenha, feita geralmente no próprio pasto,
onde os animais permanecem
quase todo o ano, resistindo estoícamente às mais duras
intempéries.
