Vor einiger Zeit begegneten mir an der angegebenen Stelle zwei alte Holzfäller.
"Hast du die Inschrift dort unten gesehen?" fragte mich einer der beiden, "Man
sagt, sie weise auf einen Schatz hin! Mit deinem neumodischen Positionsding
da könntest du den tatsächlich finden - ich verrate dir die östliche Koordinate!
Die Stellen vor dem Komma sind die gleichen wie hier; für die hinteren Stellen
musst du die Zahl unten auf dem Stein nehmen und 552 abziehen!"
Ich überlegte kurz und erwiderte: "Das kann aber irgendwie nicht
stimmen... bist du sicher?"
Er rechnete mit Hilfe seiner Hände noch einmal nach und sagte dann:
"Doch, das stimmt genau!"
Daraufhin meinte der zweite Holzfäller: "Für die nördliche Koordinate musst
du auf jeden Fall zur anderen Zahl auf dem Stein 62 hinzuzählen!
Auch hier ändert sich vor dem Komma nichts."
Ich las nochmal sorgfältig die Inschrift und schaute ihn fragend an:
"Andere Zahl? Welche andere Zahl???"
"Zweite Zeile, die ersten zwei Ziffern! Und jetzt müssen wir los!"
Die beiden winkten mir noch zum Abschied - und da erst merkte ich,
dass einer der beiden an jeder Hand nur vier Finger,
der andere aber dafür acht hatte...
Some time ago I met two old lumberjacks at this site.
'Did you see the inscription down there?' one of them asked me,
'It is said that it points to a hidden treasure! With your fancy
positioning thingy you could indeed find it - I will tell you the
Eastern coordinate! The part before the point is the same as here;
to get the last digits you must take the number on the lower part
of the rock and subtract 552!'
I thought about it briefly and replied: 'That can't be correct... are you sure?'
He recalculated it using his fingers, then said 'Yes, it's absolutely correct!'
Then the other lumberjack told me: 'To get the Northern
coordinate you just take the other number on the rock and add 62!
First part is also the same as here.'
I read the inscription again and looked at him puzzled:
'Other number? What other number???'
'Second line, first two digits! And now we've got to go!'
They waved to me saying good-bye, and I realized for
the first time that one of them had only four fingers at each hand -
and as if in return for that the other had eight...
