Lone Ranger? Ok maybe not.... There are two of them and there aren't many injuns in the glens!

Angus Council has provided a ranger service since April 1998. Based at the Glen Doll car park the two rangers provide many services for the estimated 75,000 visitors to the area each year. They are a fountain of knowledge and give information and advice for climbers and walkers on the flora and fauna of the area, hill conditions, access issues, stalking and shooting activity. They maintain footpaths, bridges, signs and stiles. They educate schoolchildren and students as well as leading activities such as guided walks, workshops and conservation work. They even spend time encouraging mini-cachers to get wet as anyone who has been at the Gathering in the Glens will have noticed....

Until recently the rangers were based at Braedownie farm, some distance from the car park and picnic area with just a small wooden shed in the car park which was far from ideal. It was decided that a purpose built facility needed to be built and with the aid of various grants from Cairngorms National Park Authority, Forestry Commission Scotland and Scottish Natural Heritage it came to fruition.

The shiny new building opened in late 2008 and comprises a rangers office, reception/display area, project room for use by schools and other groups and public toilets. The route card system which has been used in the area for years continues to be provided here too.

All these services are paid for mainly by the fees generated for the car park. Not bad value for two quid is it?

cache is a 350ml lock and lock box.
