Geocache Description:

This is essentially a multi-stage traditional cache but includes a stamp in the final for letterboxers as well. You are looking for a ground-level ammo can. You must purchase a trail pass if you bike or ski.

READ EVERYTHING CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU HEAD OUT!

We wanted our 200th cache hide to be challenging, yet enjoyable, and something that encompassed many different aspects of caching. We enjoy long treks, challenging caches, and big final containers, and this contains all three.

In the world of endurance sports, a triathlon typically consists of three "legs." You start with a swim leg, then transition to a bike leg, then finish with a running leg.

We tried to find a way to build an actual swimming leg into this cache, but it was simply too impractical. Therefore, the "swimming" leg of this cache gets you NEAR water, but not IN water.

Hunting the Cache

There are two trailheads that are accessed at the parking lot. The trailhead to the North is where you will start the "swim" and "run" stages. The trailhead to the South is where you MUST start the bike stage. Bikes are NOT allowed on the walking trails. If you are skiing, you will also start at the North trailhead for all stages.

1. Park at the parking coordinates and find the "swim" stage for your next set of coordinates.

2. Return to the parking coordinates for your transition, retreive your geo-bike, and find the "bike" stage for your next set of coordinates. You will need a mountain bike for this course because the trails are very soft and sandy.

3. Return to the parking area for your transition, stash the geo-bike, and put on your trail shoes. Find the "run" stage to get the coordinates for the final cache.

This cache covers a trek of just over six miles: a 1/4 mile "swim," a 5-mile ride, and a 1-mile run.

NOTE CAREFULLY!!!!!

Bikes are NOT allowed on the "run" part of the course. Do NOT attempt to take your bike on the "run" course. If you do, you are subject to a hefty fine!

A bike is technically not required. You could turn this into an ultramarathon -- make that an "ultracachelon" -- if you put on your trail shoes and hike the whole thing.

You can also ski most of the course in season; however, your ability to find the final in any snow will be dependent upon how precisely you can excavate! This is "available in winter," but not "winter friendly."

You must purchase a trail pass in order to bike or ski.
