This cache has been archived.

pprass: Time to close this one down. Looks like there are some TB's and coins that have been misplaced, but no great loss (he he he)

Thanks to all who made it a great event and thanks to those that posted their photo on the PPRASS Family Coin page.

Geocache Description:

Please join us in celebrating the end of winter by spending some time in sunny Mildura to visit the district, meet some local geocachers and hopefully explore this lovely corner of Victoria through geocaching.

.

According to the publicity from the tourism office, Mildura is a major food bowl. Its irrigated agricultural land produces most of Australia's dried fruit, as well as table grapes and citrus. The area also grows most of the country's almonds, pistachios, olives, carrots, asparagus, and 21 per cent of the wine grape crush – although not a great deal goes into premium wines let me tell you!

We plan to camp at the River Beach Caravan Park in Cureton Avenue, which is just 3k's north of town, for 3 nights – Friday 28 Aug, Saturday 29 Aug and Sunday 30 Aug and pack up to leave on Monday 31 Aug at around midday. You can of course come and go as you wish within this period of time.

Camping in Mildura at the end of winter is going to be interesting with temperatures around 20° during the day and 5° at night – so bring lots of friends to cuddle upto at night!

We plan to visit the following areas:
Mildura itself
Murray Sunset National Park
Hattah-Kulkyne National Park
New South Wales and South Australia!
And part of the famous Border Track

There are 41 active caches in Victoria within 75 kms of Mildura; 4 in NSW within 30 kms and quite a few in South Australia, but they are mainly in Renmark.

Evening meals will be communal at the camping ground – ie each team who would like to participate prepares a dish and shares with the group. Lunches and breakfasts will be upto each individual to arrange.

We would also like to arrange a night out at one of the local restaurants/pubs, which will be decided on as the time gets closer and we have more information about venues and numbers.

So if you are interested and able to attend this event, please post your intention so that we can book the appropriate number of camping sites. If however you intend to stay in motels or other accommodation, then please arrange that for yourselves.

Latest Information 15 July 2009

We have tentatively reserved 12 powered sites until Monday 19 July at the River Beach Caravan Park

The arrangement is that until that time you can call and ask for Kim to book one of the sites that have been reserved - just tell her that you are one of the Geocaching group. After the 19th, Kim cannot guarantee that the sites will be reserved for us - just depends on the demand from other campers.
We reserved powered sites which cost $25 for 2 persons per night, because the powered sites are up the front and have a river view. The unpowered sites are up the back and cost just $3 less, so we thought that it would be nicer to have a view for the sake of $3 per night.
There are still some cabins available for those that are not going to caravan or tent it, so please be quick. Looking forward to seeing you all and if there are any queries please contact us via email or on 0411 257 505.

Updated itinerary as at 20 August 2009

Friday 28th 12 noon
Set out and do as many of the caches within a 25 km radius of the camp ground - even the ones in NSW if we can.
Return to camp at 5.00pm and prepare for dinner which will be communal.

Saturday 29th 8.00am
Head west along Old Wentworth Rd, then head into the Chowilla Reserve to do the caches there. Go around to Renmark and return via the Old Mail Rd to Lake Cullulleraine to pick up the 9 new caches placed along the way by Jardry.
Back at camp at 5.00pm. This will be a big day!

Note: If it has been raining, the road to Chowilla will be closed so we will probably cache Renmark.

Sunday 30th 9.00am.
Head south along the Calder Hwy, west across Carwarp Rd then south to pick up the 2 "Rocket" caches. Then west through the Murray Sunset National Park along Settlement Rd to do the Border track caches. North up the Border Track and then back to Mildura along the Sturt Hwy.
Back at camp at 5.00pm and either arrange to go out for dinner or have another communal dinner at camp. This will be a medium day!
