Update 7/4/2023: A significant amount of the walkway is being replaced with a much wider aluminum walkway. If older muggles or cachers are joining you, they can very much enjoy the bog, but the cache will likely still be only accessible to those who are a little more mobile. I also replaced the cache container today. The old one had served well for 14 years - here's hoping the new one lasts another 14!
The Philbrick-Cricenti Bog is located near the edge of the town proper of New London, NH and is a great short walk for all who choose to enjoy it. The bog itself once was a 25 acre lake which is now in the process of being taken back over by nature over the course of 10,000 years. The bog is accessible by a network of boardwalks that sit on the bog peat mat itself.
The walk to and from the cache is about 0.3 mile total, but it's encouraged to walk both of the two loops out on the mat. The entire walk is about 0.8 miles total and can easily be done in about 1/2 an hour to 45 minutes. 90% of the Philbrick-Cricenti Bog trail is on plank walkways, and you must remain on them when they are available or the consequences may be dire! While on the bog trail watch the trees and peat near the boards shake and quiver as you pass on the walkway. There are also informational trail maps and descriptions of placed markers along the trail in a kiosk near the beginning of the trail.
THIS WALK IS NOT SAFE FOR DOGS! ...And there are signs at the beginning stating "No Dogs Allowed."
Cache is big enough for small TBs and trinkets. Parking is located next to Newport Road at: N 43 25'31.60" W 072 00'28.20"
