b) Beantwortet mir folgende Fragen:
Vogelsberg Basalt - Earthcache on the Hoherodskopf
The Earthcache „Vogelsberg Basalt“ is one cache of a series of Earthcaches which will show you geological characteristics of the Vogelsberg vulcano.
You will see miscellaneous volcanic rocks and have to answer 3 questions with the help of some information boards (previous knowledge is not required).
You can reach the Earthcache easily by car, parking is available for free. A few steps from there you can visit a nature protection information centre, which is for free. There you can have additional information about the Vogelsberg (It´s enough to read the information board, which is outlying, to solve the questions). The „Hoher Vogelsberg“ is one of the oldest natural parks in Germany. The Vogelsberg is the biggest basalt massif in Europe, which developed in the tertiary about 20 million years ago. You are standing on the "Hoherodskopf" the top of the vulcano, which is a basalt chimney. Sun, ice and rain have formed the landscape over 10 million years. The caldera is now formed to a soft hill. But we stay on a over 700 meters thick layer of volcanic rocks. The vulcano mountain is such big, that you can walk 30 kilometers in any direction without leaving the vulcano.
After sending the answers to me you will be allowed to log your visit.
- Logs with wrong answers will be deleted!
- Logs including answers will be deleted!
a) If you like take a photo of yourself and your GPS device at the basalt rocks without showing details of the information board!
b) Answer the following questions to me:
- The base of the Wetterau drops down because of the pressure of the basalt massif, how deep in 100 years?
- 250 million years ago the earth has one big supercontinent, what was the name of it? - How many years the Vogelsberg vulcano was active?
