Cherry-headed Conures aka Red Masked
Parakeets

Did you know that Sunnyvale has its own flock of wild parrots?
Did you know that a group of parrots can also be called a
pandemonium of parrots? It tells you something about the
noise a wild flock of parrots can make because the definition of
pandemonium is "wild uproar or noise!" (Source: American Heritage
Dictionary). You can also call them a company of parrots. Well
Sunnyvale does and not only that, they roost very near here! And
what a pandemonium they are capable of making! Most of the birds in
this flock are cherry-headed conures. Conures are Mexican, Central
or South American birds. They didn't migrate here. Instead, the
flock probably started with a few escaped pets. Due to our mild
weather and availability of suitable food, these tropical birds
have been able to thrive. You can read more about our Sunnyvale
flock in this article:
Concrete Jungle
Currently there are flocks of wild parrots also in Palo Alto as
well in San Francisco. You can read more about Bay Area wild
parrots here:

While researching wild parrots I found an interesting ad on Yelp
for an apartment right here in the Villa Cerise complex. It reads:
"The interesting thing about Villa Cerise is that there is a
company (ie, flock) of wild parrots that resides in Sunnyvale and
visits the rooftops of Villa Cerise in the morning and late
afternoon each day. The parrots are noisy, but when else will you
live someplace with wild parrots on your block?!" I've seen a
lot of different selling points for real estate but a pandemonium
is new to me!
Congratulations to The North Star for FTF!
