Cache is a smallish regular-sized tupperware container along the
Portola Trail coming up from the Portola Redwoods State Park
headquarters. Portola Redwoods is a natural basin forested with
coast redwoods. Portola Redwoods State Park it named in honor of
explorer Don Gaspar de Portolá, who led an expedition in search of
Monterey Bay in 1769. At this time a $6 entrance fee is required.
If the headquarters is closed when you arrive, there is a
self-registration kiosk out in the front of the building.
Michael_SFBA had been wanting to hike from Portola Redwoods
across to Big Basin for sometime and I was delighted when he
invited catomcat and I to accompany him. None of us had never hiked
this route and I must say it was one of the prettiest hikes I've
ever done, I highly recommend it. I do recommend mosquito repellant
when it's warm enough, the same moisture that makes the flora so
beautiful in this park also encourages the little nuisances to
breed.
