Poklad na jednom z najzachovanejších slovenských hradov
Treasure at one of the most preserved slovak castlles


EN: The castle Cervený kamen (i. e. Red stone) is an important travellers´ place and an attraction both for children and adults. This well maintained location, virtually always surprising with novelties, is worth paying a visit. Brief history: The castle was built by the Czech queen - widow Constance of Hungary before 1240 y. It changed ownership from kings to several Hungarian aristocrats. In 1535 the castle went in possession of the salesman Fugger, who pulled down most of it and reconstructed the castle. During his ownership the defence bastions arose and they were connected by a wall. In 1588 the castle became a property of baron Nicolas II. Palfi and his descendants held the belongings until 1945. During their lordship the castle was several times reconstructed and rebuilt. In 1945 the last member of the Palfi family, Charles, left the castle. After large and long-lasting post-war reconstructions the castle was made available to public in 1990 partially and in 1996 fully. More information on the reconstructions can be found on the pages of the castle or in the listing of a nearby cache, devoted to the history of reconstruction. Besides the main sightseeing, the museum offers more attractions and expositions, consecutively changed and modernized. There is free entrance into one tower and nearby rooms, further a small picture gallery. During good weather conditions you can walk in a nice, well kept garden. And freely moving peacocks on the courtyard sing "nicely" to complete the idyll.
